A group of our OYC high school students were granted the opportunity to take part in the Nicklaus Children’s Health System Project GE:NES, (Project GENES | Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (nicklauschildrens.org) , an 8-week program funded by the Miami Dolphins Foundation, aimed at increasing genomic literacy among Black youth. Â
The program empowers our Black youth to feel agentive in their healthcare decisions, as it helps to uplift open discussions with family and community members on the issues regarding inheritance, history, and diversity within human genetics and medical research.Â
After the completion of the courses, students were rewarded with a certificate of completion and surprised with a brand-new computer tablet to take home! –Next level learning now at their fingertips! Â
