OYC joined forces with The Advocacy Collective at the @miamidadebcc Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners budget hearing to urge county leaders to preserve nearly $17 million in funding for community-based organizations.
These organizations are among the most trusted first responders in our neighborhoods, connecting residents and families to essential services, resources, and opportunities.
At OYC, we see firsthand the impact of community-based organizations and the critical role they play in strengthening families and creating pathways to brighter futures.
Preserving this funding means preserving vital support for the communities that depend on it.

Every neighborhood deserves a clear path to care. 💙
We are excited to share that the @healthsfl is investing $225,000 over three years to help OYC Miami become an established hub for community health access!
For more than 20 years, under the leadership of CEO Tina Brown, OYC Miami has served Overtown, Little Haiti, and Liberty City, supporting 5,500 individuals annually. This investment will help us expand access to essential health services through our on-site OnMed CareStation and dedicated Community Health Navigators, addressing critical needs in the communities we serve.
In partnership with the University of Miami Global Health Institute, this initiative is projected to provide blood pressure and diabetes screenings to 900 individuals, increase health knowledge and awareness by 75%, and connect 60% of participants to ongoing primary care.
Health and Wellness is one of our five pillars, and this investment strengthens our commitment to ensuring that the individuals and families we serve have access to the resources they need to thrive.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Health Foundation of South Florida for investing in our mission and helping us build healthier futures, one connection at a time. 💙

At OYC, enrichment and exposure are essential parts of our programming, giving students opportunities to discover their interests, develop their talents, and explore new possibilities beyond the classroom. Through our @wethebestfoundation Music Lab, powered by @playingforchangefoundation with classes taught by @guitarsoverguns OYC is dedicated to helping our kids discover their passion.
Through the generosity of the Song of Kellen Foundation, 14 OYC students received instruments of their own, including electric guitars with amplifiers, keyboards, horns, and clarinets. To be considered for this special opportunity, students wrote essays sharing what music means to them and the impact it has had on their lives.
OYC Founder Alonzo Mourning was there to witness the excitement firsthand as students received their instruments and took another step in their musical journeys. 🎹🎺🎸
This is OYC programming in action: creating access, expanding exposure, nurturing talent, and opening doors for our students.

Experiences like this are an important part of OYC C.A.R.E.S., connecting high school students with practical knowledge, resources, and exposure that support their individual goals across our three pathways: College | Career and Technical | Military.

🛍️🎒 Back to school with confidence and style!
OYC students had an unforgettable experience at the @jtfoundation99 ’s 22nd Annual Cool Gear for the School Year shopping spree at Old Navy!
Students received gift cards to shop for their own back to school essentials, with some incredible personal shoppers by their side. University of Miami and St. Thomas University student athletes, former NFL players, members of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT), Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, and T.D., the Miami Dolphins mascot joined the experience, helping our students shop and making the day even more memorable.
The surprises continued with Sprayground backpacks, gifted through students from American Heritage School in Plantation. 🎒✨
More than a shopping spree, this experience gave our students the opportunity to connect with athletes and role models while starting the school year feeling prepared, confident, and celebrated.
Thank you to the Jason Taylor Foundation and everyone who came together to make the 22nd Annual Cool Gear for the School Year an incredible experience for OYC students!

🗳️ Civic engagement starts in the community.
OYC civic engagement team participated in the Black Voters Matter campaign and canvas the community, connecting with residents at Price Choice and having meaningful conversations about the importance of voting and making every voice heard.
Meeting people where they are is an important part of civic engagement. Through conversations, information, and community outreach, we are helping residents understand the power of participation and the role each of us can play in shaping our communities.

At OYC, we believe in the power of partnership and showing up for the organizations that help strengthen our community. Our staff kicked off our @unitedwaymiami Giving Campaign with grilled cheese, soup, and a shared commitment to giving back.
Through programs like United Way’s EDEN’s Place at OYC, their partnership helps connect families to resources and support that strengthen households and create greater stability.
