Supporting Pathways to College and Wokforce Readiness
The OYC C.A.R.E.S. Program (Community Access to Readiness, Educational Services, and Support) helps high school students (9th – 12th) achieve academic success, prepare for graduation, and build a clear plan for what comes next.
Through personalized guidance, academic support, enrichment opportunities (arts, STEM, and sports), career focused learning, and real-world exposure, students are supported in exploring and preparing for one of three pathways for life after high school: College, Workforce, or Military.
Services include:
- College Advising/Preparation:Â Assistance with college searches and applications, financial aid applications, scholarship searches and applications,
- Academic Advising/Support:Â Tutoring in core subjects (Language Arts and Math); Testing preparation for EOC, FAST, SAT, ACT, and/or CLT exams;Â Assistance enrolling in dual enrollment or Cambridge programs
- Career Exploration/Preparation: Opportunities to learn about different careers/industries; Opportunities to build skills that prepare for work (e.g., resume support, interview preparation, professional development training); Assistance securing internships, apprenticeships, or professional certifications; Connection with employers, military recruiters, and vocational programs as appropriate based on student’s defined pathway
- Arts:Â Advanced music production, dance, digital media, film projects, drama, poetry and spoken word, visual arts, and portfolio development.
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math):Â Advanced robotics, coding, 3D design and printing, drone technology, cooking/culinary classes, AI related training, and app development.
- Sports and Fitness:Â Physical fitness activities and access to sports programming.
- Post-Secondary Navigation:Â Continued access to support after high school graduation (e.g., success coaching, internship/employment assistance, career support)
- Additional Support Services:Â Mentoring, social emotional wellness, family engagement, and family support services designed to help students remain connected, supported, and prepared to pursue their goals.
