The uninsured and under-insured have a new way to get free medical care in South Florida.

The Overtown Youth Center unveiling its OnMed CareStation for students, staff and the community.

“Once they step into the CareStation, they can get blood pressure checked, their temperature, there’s a doppler that deploys from the ceiling. So it’s a pretty sophisticated telehealthcare station,” says OYC Miami CEO Tina Brown.

She adds, the medical professional can triage any acute issue – including flu, respiratory issues and eye infections – provide prescriptions and refer someone to a specialist for free.

The patient will also be asked about housing, food insecurity and other services they may need.

The CareStation can be accessed Monday-Friday and some Saturdays 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Brown says they hope to expand those hours in the future so adults can stop in after work to receive services.

Right now, she anticipates about 10 to 12 people will use it a day.
